With the economy in shambles, vacation plans are changing by the second. The lazy and carefree extended beach trips are being threatened. When youre willing to compromise and exercise flexibility, you may be pleasantly surprised as to what youre able to accomplish. If youre determined to spend time away from home and it will require overnight accommodations, adjust your time away to only be weekday stays. Starting your getaway on a Sunday night and leaving on a Friday morning can save you several hundred dollars as youll be avoiding the most popular and most expensive weekend nights.

Weekend nights are notorious for sometimes costing double or triple the rates during peak tourist seasons. This theory of simply traveling during the week also holds true for airfare. Spend some time talking to the airlines to see what the best deals happen to be. A lot of times, if you leave on a weekday, the rates will be more reasonable. When planning cheap vacations, you may find that cutting out the middle man is more cost effective. While a lot of people like to utilize travel agents, the fact is, you can end up paying more than youd like for their services. Take some time to do your own research and make your own phone calls. Sometimes, its the best way to find the best deals. By being flexible, you could find that this years vacation could cost a lot less than last years vacation.
